Hot and Satisfying

By Jane Stebbins on June 25, 2010

So I actually got to work in the office this week!

I am aware that generally this isn’t cause for rejoicing, but having finally nabbed an internship on Peachtree, (Atlanta’s Avenue of Impressive Buildings and Expensive Suits) I want to actually spend some time there.  As I learned last term, a big part of internships is being visible so the attorneys can give you random, varied tasks when they notice you.  It’s  also being there to hear the conversations about cases and tactics and things.

In addition to the daunting task of organizing all the information I’ve gathered in the last few weeks of records searching, I also got to write a response to a motion for attorney’s fees.  Again, possibly at some point this will not be a big deal.  Right now though, it’s exciting.  Depending on who you ask, I could be termed stubbornly contrary and argumentative, or  just detail oriented.  Either way, the nice thing about responding to this motion was that my need to prove every single point of someone else’s statements to be wrong is finally given an outlet.

Plus, it’s extremely satisfying to ride around the cars on Peachtree on my way to work. Hot and satisfying. (It’s been in the nineties and crazy humid here)

The downside of the work location, particularly as an unpaid intern, is the dearth of affordable places to grab a beer afterward.  I actually wound up going to The Hard Rock Cafe a few days ago with a friend. . .because it appeared to be that, a fancy place with fifty dollar entrees, or Hooters.

The only thing sadder than showing up at Hard Rock Cafe twelve years after you’d have been interested in it is showing up there at four in the afternoon in business casual.  Oh well.  We had fun.  And I got to see a bass played by Lee Rocker.
